Round Basket Workshop Week on the Isle of Erraid

3rd to 9th October 2026.

Isle of Erraid, Mull.

Join the Erraid community for 6 days immersing yourself in round willow work, taught by Leen Skinner.
This course is aimed at beginners and will focus on round baskets. The first two days all participants will make the same shopping basket, going through all the weaves needed to make a basket.

Starting with a round base, staking up, building up the sides using waling and randing, finishing with a border and inserting a handle. The next three days will be more individual and you can choose what to make next: another shopper, a fruit basket, a small log basket. Leen will adjust to your needs and skills and help you create your baskets. You can go at your own pace and also bring your own ideas.

The Isle of Erraid is a tidal island off the Isle of Mull. A small community lives in the old lighthouse keepers cottages, looking after the island and welcoming guests throughout the year. You will stay with the community for 6 days and will have your own or shared room in a shared house. The community grows a lot of their own veg in their large veg garden. There will be communal meals and opportunities to explore the island and go swimming.
