Weave a split hazel basket with Simon Cooper, one of the few people still making and teaching this ancient craft.

We will harvest hazel from our small woodland on the farm looking at what makes the perfect rod for splitting and weaving.

We will then process the hazel into strips and weave a beautiful basket like the ones pictured.

Hazel makes very strong and sturdy baskets and was traditionally used to carry heavier loads on horseback or harvesting tatties from the field.

We are very excited to learn this new skill and use and learn about another tree we have growing here.

No experience necessary but strong hands are a bonus.
