5th to 7th June 2026.
Whittingham, Northumberland.
Traditional baskets from Orkney and Shetland offer a rich array of styles. Without easy access to willow or other materials better known further south, people used what was available, largely oat straw, but also heather and even dock stems, bound with homemade twine. In this workshop, Anna Corbett will work with locally available soft fibre plants, exploring twining techniques to create bags, pockets, and pouches.
This extended weekend workshop is an opportunity to develop your basketry skills, in tune with the seasons, and to explore the folklore and traditions associated with the plants we use.
Suitable for beginners and more experienced makers, small groups for individual attention.
