Create a beautiful and functional woven birdhouse in this relaxed, hands-on willow weaving course at Naturally Useful. Designed to provide a cosy, natural shelter for small garden birds, this piece combines traditional basketry techniques with thoughtful, wildlife-friendly design.
You’ll be guided through the process of forming a strong woven structure, shaping the walls, and constructing a fitted roof to protect against rain and wind. Along the way, you’ll learn about the principles behind bird-safe design, the heritage of using natural materials for shelter, and how basketry techniques translate into three-dimensional forms.
No previous weaving experience is needed. This course is suitable for all levels, with clear instruction and support throughout. The emphasis is on steady, achievable making and enjoying the tactile, meditative rhythm of working with willow. You’ll also almost certainly be joined by our resident robin who may well test out your creations!
By the end of the day, you’ll take home a finished woven birdhouse ready to hang in your garden, along with the skills and confidence to continue exploring functional willow structures inspired by nature.
9.30am to 5pm. £85. For more information and to book visit Naturally Useful.
