Rita Baker is visiting the UK from New Zealand and will be teaching a two day course weaving with New Zealand Flax (Phormium Tenax). Her Instagram account @flaxworxnz will give you an idea of her fantastic skills and versatility. This course is suitable for beginners or those with some experience. We will look at the cultural practices of New Zealand weavers along with harvesting, preparation and making one or two items using this versatile weaving material. Some of the techniques are transferable to other weaving materials such as bark and other plant fibres. We might include a purse, an open crown hat or a container. Projects can be scaled up for those with more experience.
