I am a longtime forager, community and market gardener and crafter. For me basketry is about connecting to our ancestral roots by weaving beauty out of what wild resources we have around us. I am largely self-taught and believe in passing my playful, exploratory approach on to my students. For me, basketry should be mindful, meditative, creative and fun.
I also co-run the Glasgow and Stirlingshire Regional Basket Makers Group. This group aims to support one another to learn new skills and improve our basketry skills. It also aims to offer workshops for beginners and improvers, to expand the number of basket makers in the area, and to grow willow for local use.
I grow small amount of willow for personal use at West Moss Side Organic Farm with Kate Sankey
I teach a range of workshops and courses, from simple 2.5 hour sessions making tension trays, bird feeders and decorations, to day- or weekend-long sessions weaving round baskets and berry picking baskets.
I also occasionally offer multi-week courses in beginner's basketry.
I predominantly teach for third sector organisations, but also offer private tuition for individuals and groups. I am happy to travel throughout Scotland offering weaving tuition.
