I am a Basketmaker based in Angus with over 25 years of experience and enjoy creating strong and functional baskets that are made to be used often and bring a little bit of pleasure to everyday life! I like to blend tradition with contemporary design, bringing a visual balance and harmony into my work using colour, pattern and form. My work is available to buy through my online shop.
In 2020 I received the Joy Viall award from the Basketmakers Association for technical excellence and design and in 2022 I completed a three-year basketry diploma at Westhope College.
Over the last five years, I have also spent time researching and recreating a small frame basket using historical techniques unique to the NE coast of Scotland - a lost tradition that I'm passionate about bringing back into modern-day use through teaching and making. Please get in touch if you are interested in learning more.
I manage two willow coppice beds, a small bed that I planted with my favourite willow varieties and a larger plot that I help to manage on the outskirts of Dundee where we hold volunteer days in exchange for willow. Please get in touch for more details.
I offer one-to-one, one-to-two and one-to-three tuition at my home workshop in Forfar, Angus. My teaching focuses on making strong, functional baskets while also offering the opportunity to play with colour and pattern. I teach beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
I also run workshops on specific basket forms such as willow frame trays, circular shopping baskets, and the historical scottish arm creel. Please get in touch for more details.
