Lewis Prosser is an absurdist basket-maker based in Penarth, whose practice revolves around the interplay of objecthood and entertainment. Informed by civic traditions of the British Isles, he constructs moments of wonder and rebellion through material culture and performance.
Lewis studied printmaking at the Glasgow School of art and is a self taught Basketmaker working with local materials in South Wales.
As a tutor I am led by the maker-user school. Where baskets and woven items are used by the people that make them, and not for wider sale. So each mistake and imperfection adds to the story of the basket. My main aim as a tutor is to give participants confidence in using their hands and to share information about regional craft identity and basketry. Mostly working in Wales I occasionally offer courses in Scotland too.
