After retiring from a 28 year career with the Scottish Fire Service, I started making baskets in 2020 after a 2-day workshop with Anna Liebmann and then a 3-day workshop with Jane Wilkinson. I was hooked, and started weaving all through lock-down in my small garden studio near Cupar. I was so pleased that people wanted to buy baskets that I had made. A small grant from VACMA gave me the opportunity to access online training from Hanna Van Aelst and Eddie Glew, these videos and other online resources have been invaluable in helping me progress and develop more skills. More recently, I have started selling small baskets at Pillars of Hercules shop near Falkland, and continue to accept individual commissions.
I am looking after a fairly mature, but small, willow plantation - part of a local woodland garden in Cupar. I have also begun a trial planting of ten willow varieties in the same location, with the longer term plan of growing more of the most successful varieties.
I have been teaching one-day workshops fairly regularly at Forgan Arts Centre in Newport-on-Tay (see their website for more info). Also two-day workshops for beginners and improvers - some in my garden and studio near Cupar, and others at local WASPS studios; The Steeple in Newburgh and Perth Creative Exchange. One-to-one tuition is also an option. Please email me for more details.
My one-day workshops can be booked through the Forgan Arts Centre website ( https://www.forganartscentre.co.uk/ ). The best way to be kept up to date for everything else is to drop me an email and I will send you details of any forthcoming workshops or events.
