24 February, 2024.
West Moss Side Farm, Stirlingshire.
Max of Seileach Basketry and Kate at West Moss-side Organic Farm would like to explore ideas for setting up a regional Basket Makers networking group (where a basket maker is defined as anyone who somewhat regularly practices basketry as a hobby or profession – traditional or contemporary and in any medium).
Local to West Moss-side, Thornhill would encompass Stirlingshire and a bit west and a bit north and a bit east! There is limited accessibility by bus and sharing transport can be explored (please get in touch (max@seileachbasketry.co.uk) if you’re either driving and can give a lift, or want a lift)
We would like to see the group as a hub for socialising, networking, sharing weaving knowledge, ideas and business tips, and generally supporting and encouraging one another. We could further develop a willow bed of different varieties. We could plan for a programme of events and workshops over the seasons and invite tutors to teach, furthering the skills development and knowledge of our members. That’s our broad idea, but we’d love your input as to what you’d like to see us do and how – no matter how vague or specific, all ideas are welcome.
So, please join us for a conversation about what the group could be and do, followed by a pot luck lunch (please bring some food to share if you’re able, but no pressure!). There will be some willow harvesting during the day too (folk are welcome to take some cuttings home with them if they want).
