26th April 2025.

Bathgate, West Lothian.

Spend the day with Hermione Toulson learning how to weave your own sunhat made from rush, harvested by hand on the Somerset Levels.

During the day you will learn how rush is harvested and prepared for weaving, and make your own sunhat on a block/mould using a variety of weaving techniques. The workshop is suitable for beginners, and those with basket weaving experience.

Prior to the course you will need to make a block the same circumference as your head. This is a straightforward and enjoyable activity that requires only a tape measure, some tape, and a few old newspapers. Full instructions will be emailed to you prior to the course.

The course is taking place at the wonderful Beechbrae Woodland Centre, near Blackridge. This stunning indoor/outdoor space is set amongst 35 acres of woodland, yet just a 1 mile walk from Blackridge station and just off the M8.

£135, 9:30am-4.30pm
