13th/14th April 2024.
North Shields, North Tyneside.
Twining is a technique that lends itself to using soft plant fibres to make both flat and 3-dimensional objects. It’s very versatile, has many variations and is adaptable to a range of materials. We will be working with rush as well as a range of locally grown materials gathered in Northumberland.
This workshop will explore some different twining techniques using different plants. We will start with a ‘flat’ structure, looking at ways of starting and finishing the work. We will progress to building a flat structure into a folded ‘pocket’ or pouch and then explore the possibilities of working on a mould to create round items.
Stringmaking is always an option for inclusion, as well as using commercial yarn and thread for decorative effects. Feel free to bring any materials of your own for inclusion.
Expect to come away from the weekend with a small ‘family’ of linked items based on twining.
The cost for the workshop is £150 for the two days, including tuition, materials, lunch and tea/coffee.
If you are interested in the workshop, please contact Lorraine at lor.griffiths12@gmail.com. Payment details will then be sent to you.
10am – 4pm

Hi there, I’m quite interested in coming down to learn some of these techniques. I live near Dundee so haven’t quite made up my mind… is it easy enough to find accommodation… I would probably need to take a Friday Monday off to come down?
Thanks Moira
