Small Frame Basket
Join Karla Pearce at Loretto Junior School, Musselburgh (EH21 6JA) eto make a small frame basket. Suitable for beginners this basket provides an enjoyable one day introduction to frame basketry.

Catalan Tray -am
Spend the morning at Bowden Village Hall in Bowden near Melrose TD6 0SS weaving this beautiful but simple Catalan platter. Also called a Catalan tension tray, this easy weave is a great way to begin basketmaking or to extend your experience of weaving.

Improve your round bases!
A good basket starts with a good base. Spend a relaxing afternoon at Bowden Village Hall improving your round bases or try weaving a round base for the first time with no pressure to make it into a basket. Take home enough willow to keep practising your bases at home.

Making Cordage from Natural Fibres and a Natural Frame Basket
Join us at Bowden Village Hall to make a unique, beautiful natural frame basket. Build your frame from your choice of wood, insert ribs and weave around them with willow, bark and your own handmade cordage, made out of a variety of materials. All materials and use of tools provided for you.

Sampler Log Basket
Join us at Whalton Village Hall in Whalton, Northumberland NE61 3XA to make your own log basket, using a variety of weaves. Learn how to create integrated handles. This course is an excellent way to learn new side weaves, play with texture and colour to create a beautiful log basket. Previous experience weaving a round base is helpful but complete beginners could also make a smaller basket.

Small round basket with plaited rush
Join us at Bowden Village Hall to create a small round randed base. Weave plaited rush and a three rod wale up the sides of the basket and finish with a simple but effective trac border. All materials and use of tools included.

Small Shopping Basket or Fruit Basket
Join us during our Self-help group at Bowden Village Hall to learn the basic skills needed to make a small round basket, with a handle or without. Skills include: making a round base, upsetting, 3 rod wale, French rand or English rand, a border, optional handle. This course includes a useful guide to basketry by Jonathan Ridgeon thanks to a subsidy by the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers granted to Northumbria Basketry Group. All materials and tools are provided.

Make a small ‘Ose’ or Hen Basket in a day!
Hen baskets were used in the past to take broody hens from one village to another. If you have dabbled in frame basketry, join us at Bowden Village Hall to develop your skills and expand your experience. We will use three hoops (provided) to weave a small version of the Hen basket.

Berry Basket
If you’re interested in getting started with basketry, this is the basket for you. Equally if you would like a refresher to remember how to create a round base, upset, weave a three rod wale, and finish with a simple but effective border this is the workshop for you! A simple pegged handle is optional.

Join me at Bowden Village Hall to weave your own small flock of swallows. These look very effective when displayed together. You will have time to make three. They make great presents too!

Zarzo Tray
Weave your own Zarzo tray in the traditional style of Northern Spain.
A deceptively easy weave, this is a great introduction to willow weaving or an interesting new skill for those who haven’t made a basket or tray in the Zarzo tradition!

Asymmetric Basket
Join us at Bowden Village Hall to make an asymmetric basket. Review skills you have learned during your beginner’s course (round base, 3 rod wale, French rand) and learn how to turn down the asymmetric border and attach a handle. This course is suitable for confident complete beginners who are happy to make a smaller basket.
