Introduction to Hazel Basketry

4th or 5th April 2026.

Grizedale, Lake District.

Join Lorna Singleton for this 1 day course introducing you to the wonders of hazel basketry.

What you’ll learn:
How to identify hazel and responsibly cut your rods.
How to bend the rods around your knee to release the hazel wood and form weavers.
How to dress the material into a working state.
How to make ribs and hoops from the core that is left.
How to weave a simple platter using a pattern I’ve adapted from the Herefordshire whisket.

Suitable for beginners as the weaving pattern is simple but preparing the material can be physical and involves a degree of hand and upper body strength.

£130, with two £40 concession tickets available. SBC Members eligible for a 20% discount.
