Sat 19th October 2024.
Off The Rails Arthouse, Ladybank, Fife.
We are delighted to welcome Katy Bremer, Fife-based willow weaver and teacher. You can see her lovely work on her website and find out more about her development as a practitioner. We hope this will be the first of many basketry and willow weaving workshops, for beginners and those with experience who wish to learn more complex techniques.
This is a friendly one-day workshop and is a perfect introduction to the ancient craft of willow weaving. You will make a small bread or fruit basket from a variety of different willows. It is suitable for all experience levels. You will have the freedom to play with different weaves or borders if you have some experience and would like to try something new. This will be a small group, so you will have plenty of time for 1-1 moments, to talk about the cultivation and preparation of the materials, the tools we use and how to find them, and to answer any other questions you may have about this super versatile material.
The class will begin at 9am and will continue until 4 or 5pm depending on how quickly the group progresses. A good long day, but great fun and very rewarding!
Katy says ‘you may find the craft difficult if you have restricted mobility or underlying pain or weakness in your hands. Feel free to get in touch to discuss in more detail if you have concerns about your ability – I will never turn anybody away and I admire some determination!’
9am – 5pm, £68
