Thu 15 May 2025.
Online.
Join us for this special online #Hagchat, as we mark the launch of the online exhibition of Hag. Knowledge, Power & Alchemy through Craft. At this online event we will speak with artists Jo McDonald and Caroline Dear on the unexpected connections and crossovers in their work.
Jo and Caroline’s works are hung opposite to each other in the “Hag.” exhibition in Dunfermline Carnegie Library Galleries, offering interesting parallels and comparisons. Both artists gather, process and weave materials in their work to tell stories of human and natural history. We join Caroline Dear, gathering botanical grasses and fibres in rural Skye to weave historically influenced, Gaelic garments, then connect across Scotland to Jo McDonald gathering texts, pages and books in her urban Edinburgh setting to weave material knowledge into her contemporary tapestry sculptures. Caroline and Jo’s alchemy of materials come from different contexts, yet they follow similar paths to produce thought-provoking results.
As we enter the final few weeks to catch the exhibition in person at Dunfermline Carnegie Libraries & Galleries, this event marks the launch of the exhibition’s online presentation.
