From March to June 2025 Fife Contemporary launched Hag. Knowledge, Power & Alchemy Through Craft at Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries. The exhibition challenged perceptions of women and craft, seeking to reclaim and redefine the term ‘Hag’ for the current age by celebrating the strength, wisdom, activism, rebelliousness and creativity of craftswomen.
Curated by Kate Pickering, the exhibition featured the work of thirteen women artists in Scotland: Lise Bech, Judith Davies, Caroline Dear, Claire Heminsley, Fiona Hutchison, Ruth Elizabeth Jones, Gilly Langton, Jo McDonald, Susie Redman, Patricia Shone, Carol Sinclair, Amanda Simmons and Emma Louise Wilson.
The online edition of Hag is both an inspiring archive of what the exhibition achieved and a resource for further insights into contemporary craft in Scotland.
